Mr CJ Shukla B Sc (Hons). MBBS. PhD. FRCS (Urol)

 

CJ Shukla is a Urologist who offers subspecialist management of basic and complex men’s health conditions and also maintains his general urology interest by offering assessment and treatment of common urological conditions. 

 

He qualified with distinctions and prizes from Guys and St Thomas’ hospitals London, and completed his basic surgical training in Norwich. He then furthered his research interest and obtained a PhD from the University of East Anglia by researching into the molecular pathology of prostate cancer. He was awarded fellowships and funding by the Medical Research Council (MRC), the British Urological Foundation and the Royal College of Surgeons of England during this PhD period.

 

During his higher surgical training in the field of Urology in the Eastern Deanery (which includes Cambridge and Norwich), Mr Shukla completed the prestigious and competitively sought UCLH (University College London Hospitals) fellowship in Andrology. He furthered this experience and interest with a further fellowship/mentorship type programme in Edinburgh in the fields of andrology and male reconstructive procedures.

 

Currently, he offers complex andrology and male genito-urethral reconstructive procedures and receives referrals from  the East of Scotland, the North East of England, as well as internationally.

 

He continues to publish scholarly articles and teaches/examines at a high postgraduate level in this field.

 

 

 

Interests and affiliations

 

Mr Shukla is a Consultant Urological Surgeon in NHS Lothian, offering clinical services at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. He is also a Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer with the University of Edinburgh

 

With and avid interest in medical education, Mr Shukla has been a clinical and Assigned Educational Supervisor of trainees in urology and also is a member of the panel of examiners for the FRCS (Urol) examination (pre-consultant exams). He is the Programme Director for the ChM (Masters in Surgery) degree run jointly by the University of Edinburgh and Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Additionally, he was until recently the Associate Editor for the Andrology section for an online journal CPD platform for Urologists. More recently he is now an examiner for the viva section of the FRCS Urology examinations, which is a final exit examination for trainees wishing to become consultant Urological surgeons, and has recently taken over as overall programme director for the ChM in urology.

 

 

Outside of his clinical life, CJ Shukla enjoys outdoor activities such as cycling and fitness activities.
