Male infertility

Infertility or sub-fertility is the inability to have children and can be extremely traumatic for couples. We recognise that this can be emotional and may affect relationships.

Male factors contribute approximately half of the cause of infertility. Our team of highly trained and experienced consultants provide and empathetic assessment of the couple and offer investigations and treatment accordingly.

When there are urological conditions that cause infertility, such as a significant varicocele, then our team of surgeons offer the elite microsurgical treatment options.

Other causes of male factor sub-fertility that require surgery, such as obstruction to the outflow of sperm requires a thorough assessment to identify the cause and location of obstruction. We can then counsel patients on the suitability of treatment, including any reconstructive options.

As it is not always possible to identify a cause for sub-fertility,  and as there maybe causes that are not amenable to reversal by medical or surgical treatment, we can offer assessment and advice for the purposes of IVF (in vitro fertilisation) or ICSI (intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection). The choice of surgical sperm retrieval technique will depend on the clinical condition as determined by our assessment. We will discuss this in detail during the consultation.
